WHY
When the leadership topic comes into discussion, most often it is associated with hierarchical positions and grand scale endeavors in politics, military or business. The leaders whose biographies are promoted in media are those very few who had a great impact on a global scale. Their deeds elicit our admiration, respect and gratitude. But focusing only on that side of the leadership spectrum creates a false impression that leadership is an abstract and inaccessible topic without any direct impact on our day to day lives. It looks like it’s just glitz and glamour in an ivory tower.
I think that that perception makes us overlook the importance of leadership thus ignoring the most impactful factor on our and others quality of life. As a proof of that hypothesis, we very rarely use the term “my leader”, we use “my boss” or “my manager”. Shouldn’t “my boss” become “my leader” instead? If that were true, how would things change for my company and my life? I strongly believe the outcome is always a shared responsibility between the leader and the group. If you are in a leadership position, what do you do for your group? If you are not, what do you do to help your leader to improve?
Why I have started this blog? I have 2 main goals:
1. By sharing my opinions and experiences I would like to help others to become better leaders. I would be really thrilled if my posts helped people bust various myths and see that everybody has the abilities and duty to take leadership at various times and make a positive impact. And all these in a very simple way.
2. I would like to get feedback from the community, thus enriching my experience with different points of view and constantly learning something new.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
Don’t be mislead by the “leadership” topic, you don’t need to be in a formal corporate leadership position or even to aspire to one. Leadership in its simplest form means taking ownership and helping a group to achieve a certain common goal. You can be a Fortune 500 CEO trying to implement a grand business strategy or a high school student who wants to organize a reading group. Leadership makes the difference between just an idea and actual results.
